Baraka's accounts of one of the Black community's leading compradors (sell out) explains scientifically the development of the Black National movement from its origins .. to its peak in the late 60's-early 70's .. to its leadership's betrayal following the path that lead "up the donkey's tail" (-AB). Kosher Foods and History
A long enthusist of Jewish history, but my first real book on Jewish cuisine. So complete with the history/foods for each festival. I've made several of the recipes and friends have requested the recipes. Having been "joked" about all my life about being Jewish, it has only been about 5 years that we have known that our father's parents were Dutch Jews from The Netherlands. We are very proud of this heritage and plan to use many of the recipes in this wonderful book.

Jim Fowler's Wildest Places on Earth
Published in Hardcover by Time Life (October, 1993)
Authors: Jim Fowler and Carolyn Jackson
Average review score:

Absolutely beautiful !
This book is full of wonderful pictures and descriptions of some of the more remote regions of our world. The pictures are absolutely gorgeous and really allow the reader to "see" the location/animal as if they were there. The book is divided into sections by location and includes a three page foldout map showing where each location is. The text describes each location, each picture, and often sites when the plant/animal/location was "discovered". If you love wildlife magazines, you will love this book ! Also great for kids due to the wonderfully vivid pictures.

John Dewey and the Philosopher's Task (John Dewey Lecture (Teachers College Press).)
Published in Paperback by Teachers College Pr (January, 2002)
Authors: Philip W. Jackson and Elliot W. Eisner
Average review score:

a glimpse into the philosopher's personal struggle
Prof. Jackson takes up the evolution of John Dewey's philosophy by focusing on the shifts in perspective and the shift in terminology in successive rewrites Dewey produced for his work "Experience and Nature."

The voice Prof. Jackson uses is that of a friend. Someone who has taken up philosophy as a profession, and who reflects on the fruitfulness of the endeavor.

Dewey scholars will find much new and interesting to contemplate. And I came away with a fresh sense of compassion for John Dewey, the human person struggling to understand.

More than this, however, is Prof. Jackson's personal and personable thoughts about his own experience with this work. What happens here is, in effect, a glimpse into the mind of a philosopher who struggles to get a glimpse into the mind of a philosopher. With both efforts directed towards an understanding of the profession of philosophy.

And where we end up is with a good insight into the very human and very well-intended process of DOING philosophy humanely.

Thank-you, Prof. Jackson.

Kali Yuga Odyssey: A Spiritual Journey
Published in Paperback by Robert D. Reed Publishers (May, 2000)
Authors: J.T. Ross Jackson and Rashmi Mayur
Average review score:

Jackson's powerful writing
Many people throughout the world yearn for truth, explanation, and meaning in life. They are unwilling to settle for conventional wisdom or generalities; they must dig deeper. They are driven by inner voices leading them on journeys that will transform their thinking, beliefs, and lifestyles. Such people tend to have an impact on the world.

One such person is JT Ross Jackson, a successful businessman, a brilliant systems scientist, and a global visionary. In search of spiritual truth, he embarked on a number of experiences that challenged his perception of what is possible. He attended workshops with renowned teachers. In search of more understanding, he took a trip to India where he had a week-long "awakening." He recorded his experiences in detail in a journal that evolved into his new book, THE KALI YUGA ODYSSEY: A Spiritual Journey (Robert D. Reed Publishers. ISBN1-885003-44-7. October 2000).

"Kali Yuga" is an ancient Vedic term meaning "the age of darkness." It is defined as "an age where spiritualism is deficient and materialism rules." According to the teachings, each age comes to an end eventually, giving way to a new age.

Jackson continued to seek experiences with various figures who greatly influenced his thinking. He had a growing concern for the degradation of the environment. This concern culminated the establishment of Gaia Trust, a self-financing fund based on income earned from Gaia Corporation, a currency fund manager founded by Jackson as well.

Gaia Trust encourages the establishment of ecovillages that are small, sustainable communities where social, ecological, and spiritual aspects are integrated into a holistic lifestyle. This is also the subject of another new book by Jackson called, AND WE ARE DOING IT! Building the Ecovillage Future (Robert D. Reed Publishers. ISBN 1-885003-45-5. $9.95. September 2000).

According to Dr. Rashmi Mayur, Director of the International Institute for a Sustainable Future, "In sharing his discoveries, Jackson describes the role and destiny of humans, and each of our roles in healing an anguished earth." The author's candid description of his experiences with different masters, along with his knowledge of mythology, symbology, and philosophy, make this book an important contribution in the areas of self-help, spiritual development, and metaphysics.

Kate is Stunning!
If you love Kate the way that I do, you will enjoy these wonderful photographs of her career. There were so many shots that I had never seen before. Her life as an actor was so incredible that seeing this time capsule of wonderful images helps you understand the woman. It is wonderfully narrated. I love this book and I think the true Kate fan will also.
